Weekly update

Hello everyone, and happy Friday! We have a few last beautiful submissions this week, check them out:

And if you missed our previous updates, be sure to go and give the other submissions a look, too! Next week we'll be starting another challenge- if you have any suggestions for crafts you'd just love to see as the monthly challenge, let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Previous updates

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, there are no new submissions this week. T_T If you would like to be eligible for Member of the Month, you have one more week to get your eggs or holders (or cosies) submitted to the favorites folder! If you'd like to participate but don't think you'll make that deadline, no worries- you can still submit your work, just leave a message or send me a note with a link to it.

Also, please note that the favorites folder and the gallery folders are separate entities- you have to submit your art separately to the favorites, and just in case anyone was worried, you can submit to both the group gallery and the group favorites, so there's no need to just pick one!

Finally, if anyone has something they've just been dying to see as the monthly challenge, let me know! I'd be more than happy to try and get your favorite craft up, so long as it hasn't already been done.

Hello everyone! I hope you've had a fabulous week, and if not then I hope it takes a turn for the better soon. Maybe brighten up your day a bit by taking a moment to check out these fabulous eggs and egg holders:

See you next week!

Sorry for the late update, everyone! My break just started and I spent the day running around like a chicken with my head cut off and then driving for 5 hours. Anyways!

Unfortunately we had no submissions for this week. If that's because you can't put things in the folder- let me know and I'll fix it! That's happened before.

Also, just to clarify: submissions to the monthly challenge do not necessarily have to be new. Of course we would like them to be! But if you, say, just finished something eligible right before the challenge was announced and were thinking, "darn, I would have submitted it to this challenge!" go for it. And I put this down below in the intro, but I suppose it's worth restating: the ArtisanCraft gallery folders and favorite folders are not linked- you can submit the same piece to both the gallery and the favorites if you like, no problem. Also, the two deviations per month limit does not apply to favorites folders, so please feel free to add as many submissions as you would like.

Well, then, just to add a little color to this update, an extra little "example" feature. Have some egg cozies:

Welcome to this month's Creative Craft Challenge!

The Creative Craft Challenge is a monthly feature where we introduce our members to different crafts. Every month I’ll give you a little background on a craft that you might not have heard of and show you a few great tutorials to encourage you to give it a try and show us your work.

So join me every month and put your skills and creativity to the test with lessons and tutorials, examples, and a place to show off your work. Your submissions will be featured in our favorites gallery and in this very blog!

Remember, the aim of the challenge is to introduce you to crafts that you might not have heard about or tried before. They won't require any expensive materials or years of training and expertise to complete. The idea is to challenge you to go out of your usual field of work and try something new!

This challenge is NOT a contest or a display of professional work, but a fun opportunity to broaden your crafting horizons. NO prizes are involved and everyone will be featured!

To clear up a question a few people have asked: The ArtisanCraft gallery folders and favorite folders are not linked- you can submit the same piece to both the gallery and the favorites if you like, no problem. Also, the two deviations per month limit does not apply to favorites folders, so please feel free to add as many submissions as you would like.

Member of the Month

At the end of every month one participant will be chosen as ArtisanCraft's Member of the Month and will be featured on our profile page for the entire next month. February's member of the month is TheCopperDragon2004. Congratulations!

Decorated eggs and egg holders

People the world over have been decorating eggs for literally ages- archaeologists have found decorated eggs dating back to the iron ages! Persian culture traditionally decorates eggs in celebration of the traditional new year, and the Christian religion has strong traditions of decorating eggs. Even before the origination of Christianity and Easter, eggs represented the cycle of rebirth and new life and decorated eggs remain a powerful symbol of life.

Decorated eggs are often "blown out" so that they can be preserved for years to come- the Slavic art of dyeing blown eggs for the Easter holiday, called pisanka or pysanka, is famous the world over.

Today, many artists enjoy egg decorating year round. There's even a style of egg decorating known as "egg shoeing" in which smiths decorate eggs with tiny horseshoes!

And of course, every beautiful egg (or delicious egg! Some decorated eggs are edible) needs a good stand or holder to show it off!

This month's challenge was suggested by Ninina-nini.

Here's a few tutorials so you can try it yourself.

TUTORIALS

*Of course, since probably at least some of our wonderful members are vegan or something similar, by no means do you have to use real eggs! Go ahead and make or decorate an artificial one if you prefer.*

You do NOT have to use any of tutorials here to submit your art, they are only suggestions to help get you started. If you need some more references or directions, there are many more tutorials both here on dA and all over the internet.

Now it's your turn to try your hand at decorating eggs and making egg holders!

Every Friday I'll update this journal to feature our member's creations.

This time around, your deviation need not be a real egg! Egg inspired crafts will also be eligible for Member of the Month.

To submit your candy:
:bulletblue: Go to the ArtisanCraft homepage, click on "Faves" (down along the left), click artisancraft.deviantart.com/fa… (Creative Craft Challenge 21- Eggs and holders)  (along the left side), then click the "Suggest a Favorite" button (top right), and you're in!

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the monthly Creative Craft Challenge, this craft, or anything else, please feel free to comment here, on the Creative Craft Challenge of the Month blog, or by sending me a note to me, Animus-Panthera.

Happy crafting!

Didn't know that about the gallery and faves being separate - hadn't really thought about it.

I haven't done any of these for a while but keen to see what your idea for April is! :)
