Artisan Craft Club

• NEED HELP?

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 7, 2009, 1:19 PM
WHAT IS THIS?

Are you in need for a little help on a specific technique, or maybe are you seeking advice from someone with bit more expreience from a certain craft/material/technique?

Here you can ask for help and guidance.

This is also the place where you can help others - look at the list below and if it is in your area of expertise/knowledge, you can do a fellow artisans a great favor by sharing some advice.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

• Create a journal on your own account with the question
Note the club with the link to that journal, and we will advertise it here

Then people can go to your journal and comment, help and guide.

Don't forget to thank the ones who has helped you!

Every once in awhile we will clean out the older posts, to keep this journal as fresh and updated as possible.

Thanks to *QuibblerMe who came up with this great idea!!

Needle Felting

I'm just wondering if anyone out there who has some experience in needle felting can help me out?
I'm curious to know how to create strong joints when felting two shapes together, for instance attaching the "head" to the "body". The books I have are telling me to just felt them together, which works... I'm just looking for something that would work better if the figure was put under mild stress.

Wood Staining

I recently bought a plank of raw pine wood from a hardware store (probably an inch thick at most), which I got cut into squares of 10" x 10" panels. I have yet to sand them, but I intend to create ink drawings on the wood. My question is, do I stain the wood before or after, as I want the natural grain and colours of the wood to show through underneath my ink drawing as a 'background' as such. Would anyone happen to have any advice? I am new to using wood as an art medium.

Advice

I really love making conceptual sculptures, which are meant to be somewhat delicate, but the problem I'm finding is that charms or small items I make out of clay tend to break very easily. What makes a good, durable piece? What materials are best? Are there any techniques that improve a structure?

:iconartisancraft:
how do you mean? Start a thread in the clubs forum for each question?

I like the idea, but I don't like the forum that's provided for accounts, since you don't get an alert in your inbox that someone has replied or answered...
