THEME: RECYCLED INSPIRATION - create something inspired by a famous artist of your choice using mainly recycled/re-used items.

The artist you choose can't be your best friend from DeviantArt. S/he must be famous/wellknown in the real world - someone most people have heard of. The artist of your choice doesn't have to be an artisan, s/he can be musician, sculptor, architect...

Re-use: you take an object as is and use it again. Examples: using a tin can as a cup to help you clean the bath tub. Using a News Paper as wrapping paper. Using a mailing box again to mail something or store something as opposed to buying a new one.

Recycle: taking an object, breaking down its componants and making it into something new. Examples: Making new paper from used paper. melting down tin cans to make new tin cans. Melting down aluminum cans to make whatever you want to make from aluminum.

MEDIA: Any artisan crafts, using mainly recycled/re-used items.

TO ENTER: Send your link by note to the club
IT MUST BE A NEW DEVIATION! (submitted earliest 21 Jan '07)
ONE SUBMISSION/MEMBER

You must add a description to your deviation explaining who the artist is and at least one link to a work of his/hers and some info. And please also share some thoughts on why he/she is such an inspiration to you, how did you find your recycled pieces and so on.

You must also add in the description that this is a submission for *ArtisanCraft's RECYCLED INSPIRATION Contest

Devious Comments

Wow, this will be a challenge and a half! I hope I can find some time to give it a go!
Darn, this seems quite a hard one, looking at it from a pottery perspective...

But then I never have time to make stuff for the contests anyway... :(

Um, maybe it's me, but doesn't this hinder a huge amount of crafters? Am I supposed to rip apart one of my rugs to make a new one? (and that wouldn't actually work, since tearing out latched thread actually destroys it). I would have to hit every thrift shop in the area looking for old knitted sweaters or the like to rip apart for materials, not very practical, and likely not particularly useful, and probably much more than I'd be willing to spend. Plus, a lot of mediums don't jump out to me as lending themselves to using recycled materials. Culinary is one. Use only products that are packaged in recycled packaging? And how are you going to make sure people are really using recycled products and not just saying they are?

Furthermore, what counts as "recycled"? Because I have five latched works right now in my gallery made from leftover yarn from previous projects. Would that count as "recycled"?

I agree with you on this being hard; as primarily working with pottery I'm trying to get my head around how using ONLY recycled items could be achieved...

Yes, leftovers are considered recycled.
And I'm hoping people who enter the contest are honest, but you can never know, can you?

I'm aware of the problems with Culinary Art and have yet to solve that.
This is the themes that has been voted for.

Well, that means I'm out. I don't have the resources or ability to do a fully recycled peice.

:ahoy:
It seems you're not the only one to feel like that, I've changed it to 'using mainly recycled items' - hope that opens it up a bit.

..that's the bad thing with polls, people vote without really thinking it through.
I've decided next contest theme will be set by me and the other co-admins.
