Weekly update

We finally have some submissions! Some really fantastic ones at that, check these out and be amazed:

Remember, you have until the end of February to submit your architectural model to the favorites folder and be eligible for Member of the Month- but if you're not done by then, no worries! You can still get your deviation in the favorites folder and featured in this journal, just let me know!

Previous updates

Still no submissions to this challenge and only two weeks left! Uh oh!

Although there aren't any submissions to the challenge, we have had a beautiful model submitted to our main gallery recently. Check it out:

See you next week!

Still no submissions to our Architectural Models challenge! >: Hopefully we'll be seeing a few in the next couple of weeks.

Anyways, I do have some news for you- the Member of the Month for the month of January! Since there are no submissions to the current challenge, and because this challenge and The Challenge You Missed overlapped a bit, the Member of the Month has been chosen from the participants of the last challenge.

The Member of the Month for January is :icondigikijo: digikijo. Congratulation!

Unfortunately we still don't have any submissions to the architectural model challenge yet, but we've still got a month to go! Next week I'll be announcing the Member of the Month for January- since there aren't any submissions to the current challenge yet, I'll be choosing from the submissions to The Challenge You Missed again. See you next week!

An update that's actually on time? Goodness, what is this nonsense. Anyways, it's Friday! Happy Friday! There aren't any submissions to the architectural models challenge yet, but if you're still working on yours- fear not! From now on all challenges will be two months long, so you have until the end of February! See you next week. ^_^

There haven't been any submissions to this challenge yet, but no worries, you've got plenty of time to work on your models- from now on, the Creative Craft Challenges will last two months instead of only one, so you've got until the end of February to submit your artwork.

On that note, I've decided to reopen the folder for "The Challenge You Missed" until the end of January- so if you wanted a little more time to try out an older challenge, you've got some more time to submit something.

Welcome to this month's Creative Craft Challenge!

The Creative Craft Challenge is a monthly feature where we introduce our members to different crafts. Every month I’ll give you a little background on a craft that you might not have heard of and show you a few great tutorials to encourage you to give it a try and show us your work.

So join me every month and put your skills and creativity to the test with lessons and tutorials, examples, and a place to show off your work. Your submissions will be featured in our favorites gallery and in this very blog!

Remember, the aim of the challenge is to introduce you to crafts that you might not have heard about or tried before. They won't require any expensive materials or years of training and expertise to complete. The idea is to challenge you to go out of your usual field of work and try something new!

This challenge is NOT a contest or a display of professional work, but a fun opportunity to broaden your crafting horizons. NO prizes are involved and everyone will be featured!

To clear up a question a few people have asked: The ArtisanCraft gallery folders and favorite folders are not linked- you can submit the same piece to both the gallery and the favorites if you like, no problem. Also, the two deviations per month limit does not apply to favorites folders, so please feel free to add as many submissions as you would like.

Member of the Month

At the end of every month one participant will be chosen as ArtisanCraft's Member of the Month and will be featured on our profile page for the entire next month. The Member of the Month for December is BlindMediaProduction. Congratulations!

Architectural modelling

Architectural models are little scale models of buildings used to show what a building idea would look like in 3D. They can range from really simple, basic models to highly detailed and accurate representations, even down to the landscaping! All kinds of materials can be used, especially things like paper, cardboard, foam, and wood.

Models don't just have to be for architects, either- other professionals, like set designers and interior decorators, often use them, and they can be used as home-made dollhouses, props for model railroads and other types of models, and all kinds of other fun things.

Here's a few tutorials so you can try it yourself.

TUTORIALS

You do NOT have to use any of the tutorials here to submit your art, they are only suggestions to help get you started. If you need some more references or directions, there are many more tutorials both here on dA and all over the internet.

Deviant Effimos has an excellent series of tutorials on making architectural models, which are well worth a look.

It would be fun having a challenge that required one to use Washi tape sometime, its not an expensive material but you can use it in a lot of different ways:heart:
